My son with special needs has poor fine motor skills and hasn't yet learned to tie his shoes. These shoes are great because they look like tie shoes so they don't stand out as different from the other kid's shoes. They held up well. They velcro still holds after 6 months. I will order a pair in a larger size when he out-grows these.

This is a great shoe for younger kids. The closure makes it easy to put on and you dont have to worry about lacesundone. Fits true to size.

This is our second pair of New Balance sneakers of this type. My daughter, who just turned eight, has very long, narrow feet; a size 6 already (not totally unexpected, I wear an 11). She prefers Velcro closures. And she needs good arch support as her feet are relatively flat. We have tried many different brands and types of sneakers over the years, and have found a winner in New Balance. She finds these comfortable for running. She does complain that her feet hurt after wearing these for more than a few hours, but that is true for everty shoe she has.
