These seem to be great sturdy shoes but still nice and flexible. The darker gray is a really nice color. I only gave 4 stars because I can't attest to their durability/wear. I bought them for my 3-y-o ahead of time because they were on sale at the time. He's been primarily in StrideRites and is a little wide, but not wide enough for a W width. We are finally ready to move up sizes soon so we tried on the new NBs in size 9.5R only to find out that they are the same length as his current size 9R StrideRites and a bit narrower. If I reorder them I will order a half size up and one width wider, 10W. Hope this helps someone else with the sizing.

These shoes are excellent, well-made and they look very durable. I have bought New Balance for my 2-year-old grandson before and they have held up, and I would expect that these would as well. I bought the extra-wide for him as he has a very wide chubby foot. Although they fit him well and went on without any hassle, as others have stated, the velcro closure leaves something to be desired. They barely clasp to the velcro that's there. The velcro should have been placed higher on the shoe or the cross-over strap should have been longer. Perhaps a longer piece of velcro that's already there. It has a lot to do with how chubby and wide the feet are, of course.But all is not lost. If you are at all handy, you can sew some pieces of velcro in the area that should have had velcro to begin with. Certainly, it's not what I wanted to do to a pair of shoes for a toddler that are expensive to begin with, but it works! The original problem is finding extra-wide sneakers for a toddler, which are almost non-existant. There's not much out there and New Balance makes some really cool ones.UPDATE 10/12/12The straps for the velcro closure do stretch. So, after several wearings, the velcro is in the right place without having to do the work of adding more. Am very pleased.

Very happy with these! My two-year-old son has VERY wide feet, and I have a terrible time trying to find shoes that fit him. These shoes are well worth the price!
